00:02 – 00:40
Jessica Miller: Hello, friends. Welcome back to the It’s Your Offer podcast. I’m Jess Miller. I’m so excited to be here on today’s episode to talk about a really important piece of growth. This piece is something that most people forget about. Sometimes we undervalue it, sometimes we disbelieve the impact that it has on our growth, on the results that we create in our business. But after coaching hundreds of clients, after going through the process of growing in my own business, I can tell you that the thing that we’re going to talk about today is the foundation and 1 of
00:40 – 01:16
Jessica Miller: the most powerful pieces of your growth that there is as a business owner. Yes, you need a strong offer. Yes, you need to optimize your business so it works more smoothly and more streamlined. Yes, you need to make sure that all the pieces are moving together and that you have clarity on your goals and you are making good choices and moving forward. But this piece is the underpinning of all of that. It is the thing that makes all of those pieces come together that allows you to move through your plan and toward your goal when things
01:16 – 01:59
Jessica Miller: get really hard. And it is also the thing that puts the universe, you, and the people around you on notice that you are not screwing around. And that thing is commitment. It is the energy and the decision to commit to doing things in a different way and in a better way so that you can create the results in your business, the life that you want, the business that you want, and that you deserve. All of the things that I mentioned are an integral piece, but things really shift when you decide that you want to do things
01:59 – 02:42
Jessica Miller: differently and you commit to making that a reality. Everything changes. And today I’m gonna dig in to the areas where I think you committing, you pulling those gloves off and not screwing around anymore, really make the biggest change, the biggest difference and the biggest impact. If you lean into these things, if you take the time to listen to this episode, get serious and commit to what it is that you want in these areas, I promise you, you will see a huge difference in the results that you create. Because right behind this commitment is a change in
02:42 – 03:20
Jessica Miller: the way that you think about yourself, your business, and what you are possible for, possible to create. After those thoughts become how it makes you feel, the emotions that are connected to your success, those emotions drive the choices you make, the things that you do, how you do them, the way you show up for them, and the actions that you create from there drive all of your results. But the linchpin of all these things is an energetic alignment and a decision to commit to what you want and to not be screwing around anymore. And I’ve said
03:20 – 03:57
Jessica Miller: that a couple of times, but I mean it. There is a vast difference between considering or thinking about something or being wishy washy about it and actually deciding that the rubber is hitting the road and we’re not kidding around anymore. We have all experienced this in our lives in a variety of ways. Like that moment where as a parent instead of telling our kids that these are going to be the consequences when they don’t pick up their stuff or they come home late and we’re hinting at that to you’re home late and your cell phone is
03:57 – 04:28
Jessica Miller: turned off. Or you didn’t pick up your toys and they’re confiscated. Or you didn’t do your homework and so you’re not going to get the 15 minutes of TV. Like the TV’s just shut off. There is a whole different energy around that. We’ve also done this in our life where we’ve committed to something else. Pretend it’s a weight loss goal or we’re going to run 5 miles. Instead of thinking about it or planning for it, we just put the shoes on and run out the door. That is it. There’s a different energy around that. We show
04:28 – 05:09
Jessica Miller: up differently. And I always joke with my client, if the universe is now on notice, those things have a huge impact in your growth in your business. So, I wanna talk about this idea of committing. And I also wanna say that if you want to grow your business, if you are hell bent for glory focused and you have committed to that impact, that result, the money, the clients, the life that you want, if you don’t commit, it is just a consideration. If you want to really attain it, you need to commit. And you need to step
05:09 – 05:46
Jessica Miller: into the things that come with deciding and committing to what you want, okay? And without it, your growth will not be as robust as it would be after you commit. So, let’s jump right into the 4 areas that I see are the most important places to stop screwing around, to really Just focus in and decide that you’re going to commit to holding these things in place and focusing on them and creating those guardrails so you can create what you want. The first place is committing around your boundaries. We all have boundaries. We’ve all thought about boundaries.
05:46 – 06:25
Jessica Miller: We’ve probably even wrote them down and made some sort of framework or clarity around what that looks like. But the really difficult part about boundaries is not knowing what they are and not writing them down. It’s about upholding those boundaries. It’s about honoring the boundaries. It’s about moving through the discomfort that comes when we have to tell someone else or do something that doesn’t allow us to blow through our own boundaries. When we get serious about this, when those boundaries are not just a suggestion anymore, but they become a way of life and identity, they become
06:25 – 07:08
Jessica Miller: non-negotiable, everything in our business changes. Our time changes, the way our day flow changes, our productivity changes, and our results change. Also, the people around us, our team, our partners, our peers that are also impacted by those boundaries, they also shift. Because when we hold the boundary, when we set the example, when we start the cascade of effect that comes from holding those boundaries in a way that serve us, serve our business, serve our growth, serve our clients, we create this cascade of effect. Really, it’s a domino effect, but it starts with us. And it starts
07:08 – 07:42
Jessica Miller: with the decision and the commitment to uphold those boundaries. So, the first place I want you to look at today as a business owner running a big company with big impacts and a team is, are you committing to the boundaries that you need to step into the next version of this business that you want? Where are you blowing through these boundaries? Where are there no boundaries? Where do there need to be boundaries, right? Where are you selling yourself short? Where are you doing a really good job at holding your boundaries and how is that affecting the
07:42 – 08:17
Jessica Miller: growth of your business? Okay, boundaries are huge. You cannot have the business you want without having boundaries. Now I want to say a side note here. Boundaries are like a dirty word. It really is. People have so many negative, cagey, rigid, you know, images that come up when I say boundaries. I want to offer you this. Boundaries will set you free. If you want freedom, you need to have boundaries. If you want that business that thrives and flows with ease, you need to have boundaries. Because by holding certain things in place where you know optimally, they
08:17 – 08:46
Jessica Miller: need to be, whether it’s your time, whether it’s the way you let your business run, people treat you, whatever it is, all of the freedom and all the things that you want are on the other side of that. And so, by holding that in place and creating that structure, it allows so much expansion. So, I want you to think of your boundaries not as a way to cage yourself in or cage in your company or team and be rigid. I want you to think about it as the ultimate lever for freedom and fluidity and flow and
08:46 – 09:18
Jessica Miller: ease. Because again, optimizing means we are holding certain things in place, we are putting them there in a very intentional way, and we are freeing up all the other stuff, okay? And what we can’t do is hold all of the things in place constantly because we’re shifting, because we’re not honoring the things that we know need to be in a certain place in order to make your business run. That might look like when are you having your client calls? That might look like What is your return policy? That might look like honoring the things in your
09:18 – 09:47
Jessica Miller: contract. That might look like holding your team accountable to the outcomes and the things that they have signed up for. It could mean a million things, but what are those most important boundaries and how do you make sure that you are upholding them? And here’s the thing, you know what they are and you know when you’re not doing it. So, let’s go in and look at those things. So, sit down and review how is it going with your boundaries? Where are they? Where are they not? Where is it working? How do you really commit to putting
09:47 – 10:20
Jessica Miller: those things in place that you know need to be in there and upholding them. Okay, so that’s the first place is boundaries. The second place is committing to delegating. As a business that is thriving, that is growing, that is now helping lots of different people do big things in the world, have a big impact, generate a lot of cash flow, you need to delegate. You are no longer in the place where you can do it all. And here’s a newsflash nobody wants to believe, but you’re not as good at it anymore. Your business has evolved to
10:20 – 10:51
Jessica Miller: a place where you have a core competency, you have a competitive advantage, but there are other people out there in the world that can do the things in your business better than you. And in order to grow, you need to find those people and more importantly delegate to them so that they can allow your business to thrive into this next version. It’s almost like not knowing what you don’t know and holding on to it and just doing it your way, thinking that the result of that is going to change when it’s not. And in order for
10:51 – 11:26
Jessica Miller: you to move forward, you have to commit to getting out of the way, hiring good people, having faith and belief that you’ve hired them, and delegating to them. And what I mean by delegate is that you give a project or a task or a decision to somebody else, you make it clear on what the result is that you’re looking for, and there’s commitment between the 2 of you around that, and then you get out of the way, and you let them take that task or that project or that decision with the clarity of what the expectation
11:26 – 11:59
Jessica Miller: is and the result and outcome that you’re looking for, and you let them own it. And then you manage people to that outcome. That is delegating. Staying in it being the bottleneck, being the linchpin and thinking that you’ve given it to somebody else is not delegating. Now side note, I don’t mean jump off the cliff with the most important thing in your business, throw it in somebody’s lap and deem it like freedom and this is what justice is saying. I’m not saying that. I’m saying pick the things that you know you’ve hired other people to do,
12:00 – 12:34
Jessica Miller: delegate it to them, get clear, step into your leadership, and then get out of the way. And if you need to start with the smaller things, because maybe this person is new, or they’re not well versed in this thing you’re asking them to do, great. But the most important thing is that you do it, is that you delegate it. Because you cannot do everything and you are holding your business back. You are slowing your growth if you are trying to do everything. And by the way, it is completely inefficient and it’s completely not cost effective to
12:34 – 13:05
Jessica Miller: hire a bunch of people and do the work anyway. And how many of you, I want you to be honest, if you’re listening to my voice right now, feel like you’ve done all the things, you have the biggest team you’ve ever had, you’re spending the most money you’ve ever spent, and you are the most exhausted and you’re working harder than you ever have before. This is a result to not really getting serious about the delegating. Committing to delegate is hard. It’s hard mostly because of the internal journey that we go through when we relinquish control of
13:05 – 13:36
Jessica Miller: our baby, our little wubby that we have in our business to somebody else. But it is the only way to grow. And you have to be willing to move through that discomfort. And the only way that you’re going to do that is when you lean back on the commitment that you’ve made to delegate to the people that you’ve hired. So where in your business right now are you holding on to things that somebody else can do that somebody else should be doing? And by the way, no judgment. I do this too. It’s really hard. And sometimes
13:36 – 14:03
Jessica Miller: we don’t think we’re doing it and we’re not planning on doing it. And then we wake up 1 day and we’re like, oh, we’re doing this. Like this thing that’s been on my to-do list, I could have given to somebody else. And I’ll give you an example. This actually snuck up on me recently. I went and overhauled an offer that I had. I redid the entire portal. It’s amazing. The videos are awesome. It’s next level. As part of rolling that out in a high-quality way, I wanted to put some information in there about each piece
14:03 – 14:30
Jessica Miller: of it. Like, what is this video that you’re going to watch? What is the thing you’re supposed to be doing with this? Writing those pieces. Do you know how long I held on to this thing? For forever. And finally, 1 day I was like, why am I writing this? Why am I doing this? Yes, could I maybe do it better because I know this stuff? But possibly not, because the people on my team are actually 1 step removed, and they’re closer to the end user. So how and what do they need to see in there when
14:30 – 15:01
Jessica Miller: they open that piece of this offer, that would make sense to them, right? So, it happens to all of us. So where are you not delegating, right? Are you hanging onto your calendar? Are you sending out the email that doesn’t need to be sent out? Are you putting something on your desktop? This is the story of my life, instead of in the shared drive where people can get it and not ask you, right? Things like that are really important. What are those things you can delegate and are you committing to it? So, I want you to
15:01 – 15:33
Jessica Miller: take some time today, go in and see what can you delegate right now and set yourself free. The third piece is committing to doing things differently. I know this sounds so basic. Of course, we have to do things differently, but this is a really important piece. Right now, everything that you are doing in your business, everything that’s gotten you to where you are, has created the results that you have. So, the way you show up, the way you run your day, your calendar, the way you’re delegating, the way you’re not delegating, the way that you have
15:33 – 16:08
Jessica Miller: boundaries or the boundaries you’ve set or don’t have, all of those things are creating your current reality. If you continue to do what you’re doing now, you are going to create the same result. I know this seems like duh, of course, Jess, but I cannot tell you how many of us show up to our day or run our business in the same way we always have. Is there a moment where you have decided and committed to showing up differently, to doing different things? Are you going to sit down at your computer or your next meeting and
16:08 – 16:43
Jessica Miller: actually behave differently or run it in a different way? If the answer is no, guess what’s gonna happen? You’re going to have the exact same results you had before. And even thinking about it differently or deciding that you want a different outcome is not enough to create a different result. You have to actually do things differently. And this creates a lot of friction for many of us because we’re in our routine and we’re creating these results based on what we’ve known and what we’ve done. So, asking us to break that or try something different when it
16:43 – 17:18
Jessica Miller: can feel hard or it can be perceived as requiring a lot more energy and effort is very difficult. And we end up defaulting to what we know or just doing the same things. So, have you committed to doing things differently? And Where in your business right now can you go in and change that? Where are those places in your business, on that client journey, with all of those things that you can do differently? And I really want you to think about it. How are you running your meetings? What kind of systems are you using to speak
17:18 – 17:50
Jessica Miller: to your team? How are you communicating with your clients? What are some of those places even in the experience of your client where you can change and do something differently? Again, always kind of reverse engineering from the result that you want. You don’t just go in and blow things up and break them. This is an intentional thing, but go into it with the idea and the commitment that you’re going to change some things. You’re going to do them differently. Maybe it’s how you run your day. What do you do every morning? When do you start your
17:50 – 18:28
Jessica Miller: day? Is it working? Right? Is it creating these results? So, the commitment to doing something different and that moment where you commit to the discomfort, to not wanting to, to wanting to choose the other thing, to taking the easy way out. It’s all part of it. So that commitment to doing things differently and all of the emotion and the discomfort, like I said, and the friction and the resistance that comes with it, you’re choosing it, you’re choosing it. And you’re not choosing it in a way that you feel like you’re doing it against your will. You’re
18:28 – 19:07
Jessica Miller: choosing it in a way that you believe and know that even if it’s going to not feel great sometimes, it’s gonna get you where you want to go, right? It’s that hell-bent for glory commitment that really pushes you through. I have to tell you a side note story that my daughter is 10 and she has an unwavering perseverance. I have never seen anybody do this in my life. It’s so amazing what we learn from children But I’ll give you an example of what I mean by this. She saw a video of how to make slime. Kids
19:07 – 19:33
Jessica Miller: are all into this, making slime these days. She found a video about how to make slime. You put glue together and you add some of this other stuff and voila, it becomes slime. And I’m like listening to her tell me this and I’m thinking, I don’t know about this. It sounds questionable and it’s probably going to make a mess. So, I was like, I think you should just skip it. No, no, no, no, she’s going to do this. Well, let me just tell you, like she got all the pieces together, you know, she got the glue.
19:33 – 20:07
Jessica Miller: I think there was like shampoo and baking soda I don’t even know what else but she stuck with it and she was getting frustrated and she was doing what she had done with All the other slime that comes in the kits and all the things. But she was like, okay, I decided this is gonna work. And I am going to stick to this thing until I figure it out. Through the discomfort, through the doubt, through the why isn’t this working, going back and looking up some things on YouTube, but I’ll be damned. She actually did it
20:07 – 20:37
Jessica Miller: and it was awesome and it worked. And she has now been able to come up with like all these different slime recipes that do all these different things. I mean, she’s basically a chemist. But my point is the thing that really drove her was that she was determined and she knew that like what she was doing before wasn’t going to work so she started tinkering with it because she knew she wanted a different outcome. It’s the same thing in your business. Like, make slime in your business. How can you do this? And what is gonna come
20:37 – 21:06
Jessica Miller: of it? And now she’s got a better product than she even had before. So really committing to doing things differently and knowing that when you sit down or you come into your business or you work with your team or you work with your clients, it’s not going to be the same old. And you’ll know if you’re doing it if things are happening differently, right? If you’re actually making changes. It’s so important. And last but not least, and this is a really, really important piece because we forget this. And I have to say, I don’t even think
21:06 – 21:35
Jessica Miller: I realized this was missing out of my life and my business until someone actually said it to me. And I was like, oh yeah, this makes total sense. If you are like me, you love being in action. You love producing things. You like working. You even like working hard sometimes. You kind of embrace this idea that it’s gonna be difficult sometimes, it’s part of the journey, and there’s gonna be friction, and all of that logically makes sense, and you move into it, and you go through it and you’re kind of okay I’m in it I I’m
21:35 – 22:11
Jessica Miller: on board here but the problem is that in that process we as a physical human being we are There’s a lot going on for us in those moments with our nervous system, with our emotions, with our energy, with our brain. All of it is part of this journey. I’ve said it a million times and I’ll say it again, you are the most important asset in your business and it is so important that you take care of that asset so that it can continue to produce all these awesome returns. Right? All the things that you want.
22:11 – 22:44
Jessica Miller: So, the fourth piece about committing that I think is crucial for all of these other things to happen is you have to commit to managing your nervous system. You have to commit to caring for and taking care of yourself, I think neurologically. Because when we’re in action and when we are creating these things, there is a lot of stuff going on in our nervous system. There can be a lot of anxiety, there can be a lot of elation, like we’re so excited. There could be a lot of fear. There could be a lot of a lot
22:44 – 23:21
Jessica Miller: of things. And all of those emotions tap your nervous system. And 1 of my coaches once told me, and this is really where it hit home for me, was stay in action and manage your nervous system. However, if you are like me, you just keep moving. You hear this and you’re like, yeah, that kind of makes sense. And maybe I never thought about that. But you kind of keep doing things the same way that you’re doing it. And you just keep moving. It is so important to commit to a routine or some sort of self-care routine
23:21 – 24:03
Jessica Miller: that involves managing your nervous system It’s taking all of that energy and all that ramped upness in in your neurology and it’s helping bring it back down We have all experienced what it actually feels like to come back down. Maybe it is like you just got a massage. Maybe it’s you’ve meditated. Maybe it’s you’ve had a drink or something else. We’ve all experienced that satiated feeling of, okay, my nervous system is coming back down. I think in order to thrive and grow, you have to make that an absolutely non-negotiable part of your existence. You wanna do
24:03 – 24:33
Jessica Miller: all the things, you wanna create all the things, you wanna make the impact, you wanna work with the clients, you wanna push through and work through, you know, till 12 p.m. On that awesome podcast that you’re, you know, that you’re making, or 12 a.m. But in order to continue to do that, in order to really reach greatness and success, I believe you have to manage your nervous system. So, my question to all of you is how many of you are doing that? And be honest with yourself. Like is your nervous system constantly ramped up? Are you
24:33 – 25:13
Jessica Miller: stressed? Are you worried? Are you ramping up your nervous system even for positive things joy and you know all the things but you’re not getting it back down. We make our best decisions when we are in this neutral, sort of controlled state. We don’t make good choices when our emotions and our neurons are ramped up all of the time. And the other thing that we don’t do is we cannot sustain that. So, we end up burning out. So, this last piece is committing to managing your nervous system. How are you doing that? Are you doing that?
25:13 – 25:44
Jessica Miller: What are some ways that you can do that? This is very, very individualized. Not everyone reacts to the same things. But I want you to take the time to think about what that looks like for you. As I said, maybe it’s meditating. Maybe it’s going for a run. Maybe it’s going for a walk. Maybe it’s playing a musical instrument. Maybe it’s singing at the top of your lungs or taking a bubble bath or talking to a friend or doing hypno breath work or whatever it is, going to the spa, that’s 1 of my favorites, playing my
25:44 – 26:14
Jessica Miller: guitar, That’s another 1 of my favorites. Whatever it is, I want you to commit to something. And how do you know if it’s working? You can feel it. You know those feelings, a lot of those things we as entrepreneurs just forget about. We’re like, yeah, I’ll feel when I’m done with my to-do list. You wanna feel into it and you’ll know if it’s working. Okay? So, committing to managing your nervous system. All of these things and the act of commitment puts the universe on notice and it puts you on notice. And I’ve said this a million
26:14 – 26:50
Jessica Miller: times but the first person that you need to sell on your idea of getting the success that you want and Claiming what is meant to be yours is you it’s you and the worst thing you can do is break a commitment to yourself so decide commit Go through these 4 things make sure they are on point Put your foot down now and forever that from this moment forward you are committing to the life and the business that you want, you deserve, and you are capable of. Okay? And here’s a recap of those 4 places. Number 1,
26:50 – 27:20
Jessica Miller: commit to your boundaries. Number 2, commit to delegating to your awesome team that you have spent the time to hire and they are awesome. And if they’re not, find the ones that are. Number 3, commit to doing things differently, right? Same old thing creates the same results, right? We all know the definition of insanity. Doing the same thing, expecting different results. Don’t do it. We’re all guilty of it. Commit to doing things differently. And last but not least, commit to managing your nervous system. It is so important to protect your most important asset, your most valuable
27:20 – 27:42
Jessica Miller: asset, which is you and your nerves. They deserve it. Let’s face it. You need your nerves more than they need you. But it’s really, really important. Okay. So, take the time to go through these things. You got this. You got this. All the success you want is 1 decision to commit away. You got this. Until next week everyone, have an awesome week.
