00:01 – 00:44
Jessica Miller: Hello, everyone, and welcome back to the It’s Your Offer podcast. I am so excited to talk to you about today’s topic of something that is such a powerful lever that you can pull in your business, such a powerful asset for you that so many of us business owners either forget about or they dismiss it and they are missing out, you are missing out on such a powerful asset to grow your business. And that asset is dialing up this idea of FOMO, of understanding the powerful concept of the fear of missing out and how you can leverage

00:44 – 01:23
Jessica Miller: that to supercharge your business success. During today’s episode, I’m gonna help you tap into this often-overlooked lever, so that you can speak directly to not only your cold market, which so many of us are focused on, traffic, and cold market and bringing people in, but also to your warm audience, which is 1 of the most valuable assets in your business. Your audience in general is 1 of the most valuable assets in your business. And this tactic, leaning into this idea of giving people a sense of what it is you’re doing and why they need to

01:23 – 01:51
Jessica Miller: be part of it, and really tapping into that idea that they are gonna feel like they’re missing out, not that you’re trying to like drag them in, but that you’re showing them the value and you’re showing them all the great things so they wanna be a part of it. After listening to this episode, you’re gonna have a clear idea of how to generate that irresistible energy that make people feel like they simply cannot miss out on what you’re offering. I’m going to also give you some very actionable steps that you can use to weave into your

01:51 – 02:28
Jessica Miller: business some of those tried-and-true things that really help showcase how awesome your business is, how awesome your offers are, and how when people consume them it is going to be the best thing that they have ever done for themselves in their business. 1 of the best decisions they will ever make, both for immediate return and long-term results. I want every single person to walk away from this episode feeling like this is something that they can do immediately to generate momentum and sales in their business. Alright, so let’s jump into this. So, as I mentioned

02:28 – 02:59
Jessica Miller: when I first started the podcast, many people dismiss this idea of the fear of missing out. And I want to say totally transparently that I was 1 of those people. I would sit around being like, I don’t care what people are doing. Like it doesn’t really matter. Like I’m not someone who’s on social media all the time, you know, following influencers, seeing what people are doing. I don’t care. You know part of me was like I just don’t care well, I’m here to tell you that just about everybody in your audience including me even those people

02:59 – 03:33
Jessica Miller: who think they don’t care They care about missing out And I thought I was above it too, but guess what? I am not. I am just like just about everybody else in your audience where I care about being part of something that I think matters, something that I think is going to change my life, something that I think I can’t live without. And there are a variety of different levers, or reasons for people that generate that feeling. It could be like, we think we’re missing the silver bullet, like this is the thing that’s going to

03:33 – 04:05
Jessica Miller: really change our life, we might be missing out on the fun. We don’t want to be left out of the crowd. I mean, some of these things are some very basic primal fears like the need to be, you know, to belong or to be part of a group. All of those things factor in to People wanting and being drawn to what it is that you’re sharing when you show them why they should care Now I will tell you a personal aside not even a business You know example when this happened to me a friend and client

04:05 – 04:33
Jessica Miller: of mine went to the Taylor Swift concert way back in Arizona, I guess it was April of last year. And I had heard of Taylor Swift, I thought her music was fine, but I didn’t really care. And I don’t really care what, you know, what other people were doing or all those things. But I started to see her Instagram stories and I started to see the fun that she was having. And I started to see how the music was affecting her life. And I started to see all the people she was hanging out with and the

04:33 – 05:09
Jessica Miller: identity that she was capturing by being part of this bigger movement and what did I do? I started binging her stories and then I started taking the lyrics and figuring out what Taylor Swift songs they were. And then I started downloading all of Taylor’s music. And then I was on the hunt for the tickets at $1, 500 to $2, 000 a piece to go to this concert. All because my client painted a picture of what her life looked like and I extrapolated that to what my life would look like if I was part of this. And

05:09 – 05:43
Jessica Miller: that’s 1 example but I will tell you it happens all the time. We end up going to events or we end up going on trips or we end up making decisions for our business based on Something that someone is showing us that makes us think that our life is going to be better with it And I don’t know 1 single person that’s above it. Every single 1 of us can tap into this. Now, some of us care about it more than others, but my point is, is that that innate desire to make our lives better and

05:43 – 06:17
Jessica Miller: go toward the things that we think are going to do that for us, and the fear of missing that opportunity, and the urgency that sharing that kind of content creates with your audience is a real thing. So that brings me to the point of, when you think about the fear of missing out, when you think about harnessing FOMO in your business, what you really want to do is you want to dial up this energy of urgency. You want to dial up information that you can share with people that really helps convey this idea that you, meaning

06:17 – 06:54
Jessica Miller: your audience, needs to be in the room, doesn’t wanna miss out on this, wants to get this before it’s gone, there’s limited availability, and that whatever it is that you’re showing them is going to, number 1, give them what they want, fill in result, and it’s going to be the best decision they have ever made. We ultimately wanna feel like the decisions that we make are awesome. And after we make any sort of buying decision, there’s always that small period of time where we kind of have buyer’s remorse or we’re doubting why we do this. The

06:54 – 07:24
Jessica Miller: way that you dial that down is you really lean into why this is going to give them what they want, the energy of that, and really help make them believe and understand why what they’ve done is the best thing they could have ever done and the faster that you can do that to that time period right after they bought The better off you are that lag time that happens is a problem. But that’s for another episode. But my point is, is that those are the types of things that you really want to do to harness this

07:25 – 07:59
Jessica Miller: energy of urgency, this tapping into that fear of missing out, of really helping people see what they can be a part of. So again, that needing to be in the room, that not wanting to miss out, the look at what you can create if you’re here, the get in now before it’s gone. All of those things are really important in harnessing that fear of missing out energy. And essentially what you’re doing is you’re giving people a lot of reasons to do what they want to do anyway. Ultimately, when someone sees something that is capturing their attention,

07:59 – 08:33
Jessica Miller: and there’s that urgency or that fear of missing out that is infused in what they’re seeing, what essentially, it’s doing is it’s pushing them over the line to make a decision and make it fast. And ultimately, if they are compelled to buy that thing that you’re selling or go after that thing that they’re seeing, they actually really want to do it anyway. And you’re just providing the energy and harnessing all of that energy to push them through to the decision and ultimately get what they want to get anyway. So that raises the question of what are

08:33 – 09:07
Jessica Miller: some of the great ways to really build that urgency, build that energy or that fear of missing out? Well, 1 of the first ways that you can do it is to showcase the results that you’re getting for people in your business. Another way of saying that is to share testimonials. Testimonials are such a powerful tool in your business. Now, I am not telling you anything that you don’t know, but what I am likely telling many of you is that you need to do it more. You need to show people on a consistent basis how what you

09:07 – 09:43
Jessica Miller: do gets people the result that they want. You want people to think your name equals whatever result that you want. So, someone recently shared with me that they think that I am an expert income multiplier. I was like, I love that term, it’s great. And I love doing that for people. So, if we just use that as an example, I want Jessica Miller to equal expert income multiplier or Jessica Miller to equal double your revenue with ease. Those are the types of things that you wanna send a message of through your testimonials. So, when people go

09:43 – 10:16
Jessica Miller: to your social media, when they land on your website, if it’s your sales page, if they’re hearing a sound bite on a podcast, they are equating what they are seeing in those testimonials to the brand message and the brand promise that you want to be sending to your customers. So as much as you can have that social proof, show people what kind of results you’re getting, let them see what it’s like to be in the result of what it is that your business is offering them. And the visuals are very powerful, you know, video content and

10:16 – 10:48
Jessica Miller: voice and all of those things. I mean, there’s so much technology now that we can leverage in our day and age. The way that you could show that, and especially if you have real content of other people saying these things, it is so powerful. So, testimonials, doing them well and doing them often and making sure you’re putting them in strategic places. Where can you share this? Where your audience is hanging out and going to see it and is able to consume it. The more that you do that, the more you’re pulling people in, you’re creating that

10:48 – 11:21
Jessica Miller: irresistible energy that people think, what is going on there? And I need to have it right now. As I alluded to the second thing that you can do is short videos. Short videos are so powerful. Why? Because that no like and trust factor is so high in short videos. It is to the point, it is real life content, and people can consume it very quickly. And it kind of, you know, it hits all these buttons. It hits, you know, the feeling. It hits the visually, you know, stimulating. It hits all of those pieces that really pull

11:21 – 11:52
Jessica Miller: your audience into an experience that your client is having that they can feel when they are consuming that video. It’s easy to share on so many platforms. You can slice and dice it up for different spices, you could take the audio out, you can B-roll over it. I mean, the options are so endless, and you can use it in so many different places, right? You can use it on social media, you can embed it on your website, you can put it on a sales page. It’s so, so user-friendly in that sense of being able to leverage

11:52 – 12:25
Jessica Miller: it in a lot of different places. So, dialing up that energy, letting people literally see what they could be part of is such a powerful way to really lean into that FOMO, that fear of missing out in the urgency. Another way that is an amazing way to showcase this is shouting out people that are getting your results. So really in your social media, talking about the person that got the results, talking about your clients that have a win, talking about the impact that you’re having on the world and how does that look. Also, those connections and

12:25 – 13:02
Jessica Miller: those partnerships are very, very powerful because you’re not only able to show your audience some of these results and shouting these people out. You’re leveraging and elevating the people that you’re shouting out, which is so win-win and so amazing. But the other beautiful thing that happens is you’re now tapping into their network. You’re taking that urgency and you’re pushing it all the way out. So, my client that shared the Taylor Swift story, she was doing that, right? Like she’s shouting out Taylor and of course she’s tapping into all of Taylor’s people, but Taylor’s also getting access

13:02 – 13:38
Jessica Miller: to her whole network, which is how I found her. So that is the power of those shout outs. And they’re such a great way of showcasing what it looks like to be part of your business and what it looks like to actually have the result that you are you know you’re promising to people what’s part of your brand promise so when we think about effectively conveying this urgency and this FOMO to people how do we do that well the number 1 thing is your energy. So, you can tell by this podcast, like I love this. I

13:38 – 14:10
Jessica Miller: love giving people a reason to do what they want and not just at any time, like right now. I think now is the next best time to yesterday to go after what you want. And so that energy, creating that energetic excitement is so important. Your energy needs to be on point. Go out there and talk about the things in your business you are hell yes about. That energy really transcends everything else you could possibly say. Yes, you want to say certain things but it’s the energy of it. It’s the energy of belief It’s the energy of

14:10 – 14:44
Jessica Miller: I really love this and I want you to love it and here’s why like that compulsion to tell people is so magnetic So you want to always be creating that energetic excitement? You want your authenticity and why you love it to shine through. You wanna be able to show why you love the results you’re creating, why you love your clients that you’re helping create this, why you love whatever immersive experience or experiences you are creating through your business, the energy speaks loudly. So, you always wanna have that energy and excitement. You also wanna make sure that

14:44 – 15:20
Jessica Miller: you are very clear and you are speaking directly to your audience, your ideal customers. Now we all know from business there can be some slight differences between warm audience or cold audience and how you speak to them but when you’re creating this what is it like to be in the room or what are these results like? It’s almost a universal message, but you want it to be tight to the people that are poised to consume this. So, you want to be talking to your ideal clients. You want to make it very specific around why they should

15:20 – 15:51
Jessica Miller: be there. What kind of result they’re going to get? What is it going to look like after they consume this? What are they struggling with? And why is this going to be the answer? So, you want to know that audience and you want to make sure you are speaking directly to them. Sometimes the shortest, most focused, pointed things that you can say are the most powerful because they are really dialed in to that client and it’s like you’re speaking their language and reading their mind. That’s what you want. And you want to make sure that you

15:51 – 16:28
Jessica Miller: are showcasing those things and showing them those pieces of your business that you’re doing that are going to help them and not anyone specifically them. And also, you want to make sure another really important and key element is you are highlighting the results. People buy results. They don’t buy features of your offer. Those features are important after they’ve bought into and believe in the results that you can get them. But you want to clearly define the results and benefits. When you’re talking about short video, you’re talking about testimonials, they are quick to the point mirrors of

16:28 – 17:02
Jessica Miller: what is happening for the person in the testimonial or video that are getting these results and benefits that they want and you can give them. People buy that. They buy your energy, they buy the results they want, and they buy what is clear to them. So, speak directly to that person, get fired up and tell them how awesome their life is going to be working with you. And as I said, don’t do it some of the time, do it all the time and do it consistently and do it well. And you will be shocked at the

17:02 – 17:37
Jessica Miller: people that come in when you give them a finite time to do it very short, I’m a big fan of short and you give them a reason to come in and do what they want to do anyway, so wrapping this all up with a bow When should you utilize this energy of FOMO, this energy of urgency, this energy of giving people a window into why they need what you’re offering right now? Why when you show them this, they will think it is the best decision they’ve ever made because you want to do this consistently. Okay? So

17:37 – 18:08
Jessica Miller: I encourage you, where in your business can you dial this up? Where are you not doing it? I want you to go find those places. And I promise for every single person watching this podcast, watching this podcast, watching or listening to this podcast, there is a place you can do this in your business. Even for me, as I am saying this to you on this podcast, there are places where I have an opportunity to dial this up. So where can you make this stronger? I wanna encourage you to do this at least weekly. Where can you

18:08 – 18:39
Jessica Miller: show people why they should be working with you, why your offers are amazing, and why they’re gonna solve their problems? And to give them that sense that they should do it right now and they’re not going to regret it. They’re going to love it. And then you want to make sure that you think about your clients in both that short- and long-term lens. It’s going to help you now because of XYZ. Maybe this program that you’re selling is going to help people make, you know, $10, 000 a month. Let’s pretend that’s the short term, but

18:39 – 19:12
Jessica Miller: long term, what is it going to give them? Financial freedom, right? So, you’re helping connect the dots. And that’s such an important sales thing that we forget but you want to really spell it out for people. Show it them exactly how it’s going to look because the again the more clear that you do that and the easier that you do that the better it will stick for people right People will really understand it. So, the fear of missing out is a hugely important lever that you have to leverage in your business to grow, to generate more

19:12 – 19:42
Jessica Miller: sales. It is something that is so powerful, directly speaking to both your cold and warm audience and really helping people understand why this is what they need. So go and look for those areas where you can talk about why they need to be in the room, why they don’t wanna miss this opportunity, why there’s a limited time or a limited availability, and why they should do it right now, why it’s going to be the best decision they ever made. Some of the ways that you can do this right now is leverage or collect if you don’t

19:42 – 20:13
Jessica Miller: have enough of them testimonials. Get the words of your customers talking about how amazing their life is and how it’s completely changed after buying your offer or working with you. What did their life look like before? What did it look like once they found you and what does it look like now? That’s what you’re looking for in those testimonials. If you can capture short video or anything that is going to dial up that no like and trust factor in a powerful way, and video is such an amazing way to do that, capture it. Does not need

20:13 – 20:42
Jessica Miller: to be long-winded, it can be very, very short, and it’s a way to show people exactly what is happening with you to paint that picture of what it looks like to be in it with you and then of course shout out shout out your clients shout out your partners shout out the people who are kicking butt out there and they’re living in their hell yes and so are you as a result of the work that you’re doing and watch your business explode. As always, we wanna hear from you. We wanna hear how you’re dialing this up

20:42 – 20:58
Jessica Miller: in your business and you’re allowing people to really change their life and have a big impact in the world and do the things that they love and that you’re giving them permission to do in an amazing way until next week everyone have an awesome week
